Chelsea News: Why Chelsea Does not Play Alvaro Morata – Sarri's Theory Revealed | Football | sport

The new boss, Maurizio Sarri, has chosen Olivier Giroud as first choice striker, Morata having to settle for a place on the bench.

Sky Sports pundit, Danny Higginbotham, thinks the Spaniard's omission is due to the fact that he does not have the deep impression like Giroud.

"I think it's what separates him from Morata and him," Higginbotham said.

"Morata is a center forward who likes to expand the game but he does not create space behind.

"The characteristics are very different but Diego Costa and Giroud are very similar in their style of play.

"Both love to dive into the depth and it is not surprising that Hazard had very successful seasons, with Diego Costa, when they won the Premier League.

"He was going into all these areas all the time and Giroud was doing exactly the same thing for him."

Sky Sports' pundit, Mark Schwarzer, thinks that Giroud's rise was caused by France's World Cup win, even though the striker did not score a goal.

"I thought he was outstanding at the World Cup and his impact in the French selection was incredible," said Schwarzer, former Chelsea goalkeeper.

"I watched him against Australia's couse and he came and reversed the game with his movement, his presence and his defense stretch.

"It was the start and he got better and better, and many said we could not shoot or score a goal, but his contribution to the team is phenomenal.

"He pursued it with Chelsea and Sarri identified it.

"At the beginning of the season, he cut and changed a bit, but he realized that having Giroud by your side made you a better one.

"I think it's sometimes underestimated regarding its importance to the team."
