4 Americans and 1 tourist guide killed in a raft accident in Costa Rica

Luis Guzman, a Costa Rican Red Cross official, told CNN in Espanol that three rafts carrying 18 people had been overthrown. Thirteen people survived by holding up the rafts, but five were dragged down the river.

The Costa Rican authorities have identified the dead Americans as Ernesto Sierra, Jorge Caso, Sergio Lorenzo and Andres Dennis. Their ages ranged from 25 to 35 years old. No hometown has been given.

The deceased tourist guide from Costa Rica has been identified as Kevin Thompson Reid.

Coasta Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada said on his official twitter account: "On behalf of the Government and people of Costa Rica, I would like to express our deepest grief for the accident that occurred this afternoon at the Naranjo River, to all the emergency and security teams who worked diligently, and I have instructed the authorities to assist the families of the victim. "

The Costa Rican Red Cross had 12 rescuers in the area at the time of the accident and participated in its rescue, the organization announced on social media.
