The Atlanta Falcons improved to 3-4 on the season following their, 23-20, victory over the New York Giants Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It was Atlanta’s fifth-straight win on “Monday Night Football.” Here are five stats from the game:
New franchise record
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan — who leads the NFL in passing yards (2,335) this season — converted 31-of-39 passes for 379 yards and one touchdown. Ryan set a new franchise record with 203 attempts (so far) without an interception. He surpassed Steve Barkowski’s record of 197 set in 1982-83.
In the last four home games, Ryan has thrown for at least 350 passing yards with zero interceptions, the most in the Super Bowl era.
Ryan finished the night with 18-straight completions. The 11-year veteran moved up to 13th on the all-time completions list, surpassing Vinny Testaverde (3,787).
Stopping Barkley
The Falcons’ defense held the Giants to just 61 rushing yards, limiting rookie running back Saquon Barkley to only 43 rushing yards, his second-lowest total of the season.
Hall pass
Wide receiver Marvin Hall had a 47-yard touchdown in the second half — his second touchdown as a Falcon. His other touchdown was a 40-yarder against the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
Wide receiver Julio Jones led the team with nine catches for 104 yards. It was Jones’ fourth 100-yard game this season. He needs just 134 yards to reach 10,000 career receiving yards.
He remains without a touchdown catch this season.
Kicking first
Kicker Giorgio Tavecchio, who the Falcons signed to replace the injured Matt Bryant, converted on three-of-three FG attempts Monday night. The second-year veteran hit a career-long 56-yard attempt in the fourth-quarter, making it the longest field goal made by a player in his first game with a new team in the last 40 seasons.
Sack time
Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett returned from missing two games with an ankle injury to record his first multi-sack game (2.0) since Super Bowl 51 against the New England Patriots.
Jarrett was one of three Falcons to bring down New York’s Eli Manning. Jack Crawford and Takk McKinley sacked Manning for eight-yard losses. McKinley leads the Falcons with 5.5 sacks this season.
The last time three Falcons recorded sacks in one game was Nov. 20, 2017, against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
