Vintage Crash-Lands plane burst into flames on 101 Freeway at Agoura Hills

A small vintage aircraft crashed Tuesday on the lanes of the Freeway 101 Freeway at Agoura Hills, catching fire, and the pilot was surprised.

The North American SNJ-5 aircraft with the pilot on board while the occupant crashed near the central lanes of the 101 Freeway heading north near Liberty Canyon Road at approximately 1:15 pm LA County Fire.

The aircraft wing, still in flames, was draped over the center divider while the crews were trying to extinguish the flaming and marveling video.

The rear part of the plane seemed to have disappeared, the fire continuing to burn in the corridors. He took off from Van Nuys airport, confirmed a spokesman.

All lanes were to be closed for an indefinite period. Traffic on the north side was blocked for several kilometers as the crews scrambled to clean up the wreckage.

Collector aircraft with German wing markings are typically used at parades and belong to the Condor Squadron Club, Van Nuys Airport said. The nonprofit club organization – founded by World War II pilots in 1965 – is dedicated to preserving the history of aviation.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the accident.
