With winds currently of 160 mph, Yutu has been promoted supertyphoon status as he continues to strengthen himself and head to the marinas, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and the National Weather Service.

"This continues to intensify," said the meteorologist of the national meteorological service, Chip Guard.

The storm is expected to pass within a few miles of Tinian between 1 and 2 am Thursday. Hazardous winds extend 130 miles west and southwest and 230 miles east.

This means that the worst weather will last Thursday.

The time remaining before the storm should be used for last-minute preparations.

  • Wrap carpets away from doors and windows
