Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the 2018 Seoul Peace Prize for his contribution to international cooperation and the promotion of global economic growth.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement Wednesday that Prime Minister Modi had expressed gratitude for this prestigious honor and that, in light of the strengthened partnership between India and the Republic of Korea, he had accepted the price.

"The world recognizes it Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize 2018 for his contribution to strong economic growth in India and around the world through Modinomics, world peace, improvement of human development and strengthening democracy in India, "Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said.

The ministry said the prize would be presented to Prime Minister Modi by the Seoul Peace Prize Foundation at a convenient time.

The Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul. This award was created to crystallize the Korean people's aspirations for peace on the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world.

While awarding the prize to Prime Minister Modi, the committee acknowledged its contribution to the growth of Indian and global economies, attributing to Modinomics the reduction of social and economic disparities between rich and poor, said the Department of External Affairs.

The committee welcomed Prime Minister Modi's initiatives to make the government cleaner through anti-corruption measures and demonetization, he said.

The committee also paid tribute to him for his contribution to regional and global peace through a proactive policy with countries around the world under the "Modi Doctrine" and the Act's policy is , did he declare.

He is the 14th recipient of this award. Previous winners included former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and renowned international relief organizations such as Médecins sans Frontières and Oxfam.
