Ice-T was arrested on Wednesday for driving through a toll plaza without paying, TMZ reports.
He was reportedly on his way into New York, driving a red McLaren sports car, when he failed to pay the toll for the George Washington Bridge. Port Authority police arrested the rapper and actor, who lives in Edgewater, after he was seen driving through the E-ZPass lane.
Police arrested him for evading a toll and for having an unregistered vehicle.
Ice-T told TMZ that he had forgotten his E-ZPass, since the car was brand new, and that he had seven different tags in his other cars at home.
‘Cops went a little extra’
Ice-T, a Newark native, has played police sergeant Odafin Tutuola on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” for 18 years. He reportedly headed straight to the set after being released by police.
Born Tracy Marrow, Ice-T, 60, grew up in Summit before moving to the West Coast and is credited with being an originator of gangsta rap.
In 1992, Ice had a different kind of run-in with police. He decided to pull a song called “Cop Killer” from an album with his metal band Body Count because of criticism that led to his record company receiving death threats.
“Cops went a little Extra,” he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon, sharing the TMZ story. “Coulda just wrote a ticket. In and out .. Moovin.”
Ice was reportedly charged with theft of services and issued a summons for having an unregistered vehicle with no license plate.
Ice marveled at the news coverage of his arrest and traffic ticket.
“This is serious big time CRIME!” he tweeted, posting a photo of Channel 7’s coverage.
“What I have noticed is that ANY slightly negative news about you.. Will bring your Haters out to party,” he said.

Soon after he was arrested and released by police, Ice was back on the job at “SVU” alongside actor Philip Winchester.
