The Intelligence Bureau (IB) said Thursday that four of its men, caught outside the home of IWC director Alok Verma, were conducting a routine patrol.

The men were seen in two cars waiting since Wednesday night in front of the Janpath bungalow until they were intercepted and detained by Verma's chief security officer. They were caught searching Verma. The head of the CBI had previously been sent on leave.

The Central Investigation Bureau and the International Bureau were also informed of the matter.

After a video showing the four people dragged by the Verma staff security agents went viral, the IB issued a statement saying that the men belonged to the office.

The four were handed over to the Delhi police. They identified themselves as Dheeraj Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Prashant Kumar and Vineet Kumar Gupta, claiming to be IB officers.

Dheeraj and Ajay told the police that they were junior officers while the other two claimed to be assistant content officers.

Identity cards and several mobile phones were found.
