Nobody is safe in college football after the shocking defeat in the state of Ohio State last week, but what teams are on the alert for their match of the 9th week.
Looking at University football last week for the annoyances that have occurred, the Ohio State Buckeyes are the team at the forefront. Resembling a team capable of sailing until the end of the season, the Buckeyes laid an egg at the worst possible time. The Boilermakers of Purdue were not defeated for their first defeat of the season: the team of Urban Meyer was embarrassed by the Boilermakers.
However, in the university football landscape, upheavals have not been limited to Buckeyes. We saw a quietly undefeated team from Cincinnati Bearcats suffer its first loss of the season to a lower team in Temple Owls in overtime. In addition, the Oregon Ducks had the opportunity to take control of the Pac-12, but left on the road and were taken care of by Washington State.
Even with all this, however, the upheavals were not quite abundant last week. After the chaos we saw weekly across the country, we had a last respite for those who prefer to preserve their mental health. Therefore, it goes without saying that we are about to see even more craziness coming in the 9th week.
There are not many possible clashes between Florida and Georgia, but some games may be intriguing and cause setbacks. Which teams should be on the lookout however? These five teams must be on alert for the 9th week.
5. South Florida Bulls
Rating: 21 | Opponent: Houston Cougars | Time: 15:30 ET
South Florida is one of five undefeated teams that remain in college football and is entering the 9th week, but this is a team that has been tested extensively in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, in a game played on Friday night, the Bulls faced Tulsa and were pushed to the brink, requiring a last-second swap for victory. At the same time, they beat last week only a dismal UConn team by eight points at home.
A win is a victory for the Charlie Strong team and that's all they have done so far. However, it has become clear that this is a team that flirts with the risk of losing without falling and falling. At least, that's what they've done so far, but they may not be able to pull out on Saturday.
The Houston Cougars are one of the best non-Power 5 teams that nobody talks about. Yes, people talk about Ed Oliver as one of the best hopes of the NFL 2019 draft, but this team as a whole is very impressive. They suffered only one defeat this year, in a shootout against a good Texas Tech team. Apart from that, they have been largely dominant.
Frankly, I think Houston is the best team in this game. Even if these two teams agree well, the disastrous escape displayed by the Bulls will not work in a game like this. As such, Couguars may suffer the first defeat of 2018 in South Florida.
