A mother from Georgia said her 2 year old son was sick and woke up paralyzed from the neck to the feet.
It's the latest in a series of mysterious diseases that baffling doctors. Two young patients were recently treated at the Children & # 39; s Healthcare Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital, after falling ill, then woke partially paralyzed.

The doctors are still trying to determine the causes of acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, but they claim that this rare disease resembles polio, in that it can lead to muscle weakness or partial paralysis. .
As for polio, doctors believe that AFM is caused by a virus, but that the virus in question is not yet known.

Erica Palacios, the 2 year old mother of Abigail, said for a moment that she was healthy and was suffering from a double ear infection and fever. A few days later, his daughter woke up paralyzed from the neck up to the feet.
The doctors diagnosed Abigail with AFM.

Acute flaccid myelitis was diagnosed in a 2-year-old child after being bedridden, sick and awake paralyzed from neck to foot.
Throughout the country, disease control and prevention centers report 62 confirmed cases of FMD in 22 states and 93 possible cases.
