NOTewt Gingrich said Thursday that Representative Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had a better chance of becoming a speaker in the House than GOP leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
At an event organized by the Washington Post, Gingrich, himself former Speaker of the House, hinted that he thought the Democrats would take the House.
"I think the odds are 2 out of 3, she will be a speaker," he said of Pelosi, currently the minority leader in the House.
"And 1 Kevin McCarthy out of 3 will be," he continued.
Democrats must overthrow two dozen seats in the House in the November 6 mid-term elections to take control of the lower house.
If the Democrats won, Mr. Gingrich said he was very confident that Mr. Pelosi, who had already served as Speaker from 2007 to 2011, will regain the power of the President, citing his long career, his relationships and his fundraising prowess.
But Gingrich acknowledged the possibility of an "explosion".
Representatives Tim Ryan, of Ohio, are considering another challenge for the Pelosi leadership, and representatives of James Clyburn, DS.C, have stated that he would run for candidate if Pelosi did not do it .
According to a count of NBC News, at least 11 Democratic candidates and dozens of candidates have said they will oppose Pelosi.
