Donald John Trump: The Trump Administration Takes Action to Ban Migrant Asylum Claims from Central AmericaCanada's National Security Advisor, John Bolton, announced Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to Washington, DC early next year.
Bolton said Putin would be invited "after the first day of the year" at a press conference held in Georgia on Friday, according to a Fox News report.
"We invited President Putin to Washington after the beginning of the year for, essentially, a full day of consultations," said Mr. Bolton. "What the schedule of this is, we do not know it yet."
In July, Trump asked Bolton to hold a second summit with Putin after the leaders' meeting in Helsinki, Finland.
Putin's visit to the White House marks the Russian president's first visit since George W. Bush took office, Fox News reported.
Putin visited the former president in 2001 and 2005.
Bolton, who traveled to Moscow for a personal meeting with Putin earlier this week, also announced that Mr Trump would meet Putin in Paris on November 11, the day of the commemoration of the end of the First World War. . This would be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since the Helsinki summit, which had been unveiled earlier this week.
This summit was widely condemned by Trump's critics at home and abroad, who repressed the president's refusal to publicly confront Putin about Russia's interference in the election of 2016.
Regional experts also raised questions about the usefulness of another face-to-face meeting between the two leaders. But Trump has long wanted to forge close ties with the Russian leader in hopes of improving relations between his two countries.
