Stressed out people have smaller brains

You already know stress is bad for your health.
Now, a study suggests it may also be bad for your brain.
Researchers following more than two thousand middle-aged adults, finding those with the highest levels of cortisol in their blood had lower brain volume, and performed worse on memory and thinking tests than those with lower levels of the hormone in their system.
This suggests stress may to blame for these consequences.
The team notes cortisol is involved in a range of normal bodily processes, but extra is released in response to stress.
Study authors note while they did not follow people to see if they went on to develop dementia, these effects could be a precursor to the memory-robbing disease.
Further research will be needed to determine any other factors could be related to this link.
