Jets-Bears UPDATED Final Report on Injuries Week 8 | Good news for Spencer Long?

Here's an overview of the final injury report for the Sunday 8th game between the Jets and the Bears in Chicago:

JETS

Outside: WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle)

doubtful: WR Robby Anderson (ankle), CB Trumaine Johnson (quad)

Questionable: C Spencer Long (knee / finger), CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder / foot), LT Kelvin Beachum (back), S Marcus Maye (thumb), ILB Kevin Pierre-Louis (foot)

Did not practice: WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle), C Spencer Long (knee / finger), WR Robby Anderson (ankle), CB Trumaine Johnson (quad)

Limited participant: CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder / foot), LT Kelvin Beachum (back), S Marcus Maye (thumb), ILB Kevin Pierre-Louis (foot)

Full participant: ILB Darron Lee (illness), WR Andre Roberts (foot / ankle), LG James Carpenter (shoulder / ankle), RB Isaiah Crowell (foot), DE Leonard Williams (back), CB Buster Skrine (concussion)

What this means: A late change: Long was upgraded to become questionable before the Jets recorded their final injury report at 4 pm. Earlier in the day, on the report distributed to the media, Long had been quoted as questionable.

This is obviously a step in the right direction for the center of the Jets, although it remains to be seen if it is sufficiently improved to be able to face the Bears. Bowles said Friday that Long's finger injury was getting worse week by week. So there remains a chance for Jonotthan Harrison to be the center man. Bowles would not engage for Harrison at the expense of Dakota Dozier, who would be the other option in the absence of Long, although it seems to be the most likely option to account given what we saw during the pre-season.

It would be amazing if Johnson plays, since he has not practiced at all this week and has not practiced it for about a month now. Anderson has only been out for a week, but it would be a surprise if he plays after missing three consecutive practices.

Jets vs. Bears, predictions

If this is the case, the Jets could have serious problems with the wide receiver. Jermaine Kearse would be their only one, with guys like Andre Roberts, Charone Peake and Deontay Burnett trying to fill the gaps. Rishard Matthews, who has just signed with the team this week, could also help, although he is still learning the offense. Bowles would not say how important Matthews could be.

Claiborne and Beachum both seem to be able to leave after a second consecutive limited practice.

Maye's return, however, is much more murky.

There is a chance for Maye to come back for this week's game with a soft cast on his thumb, but he still has not made contact. This will be all about pain management and if the Jets feel that it can be effective despite the injury. It seems even more likely that Terrence Brooks will take his place. Doug Middleton, Maye's usual replacement, is missing for the year with a torn pectoral muscle.

The only real good news from the Jets came from Skrine, who is now out of the concussion protocol and will play Sunday. This is a boost for the upset secondary.

BEAR

Outside: LG Eric Kush (neck)

Questionable: OLB Khalil Mack (ankle), WR Allen Robinson (groin)

Did not practice: LG Eric Kush (neck)

Limited participant: OLB Khalil Mack (ankle), WR Allen Robinson (groin)

What this means: Kush is a starter, while the loss hurts. But Mack and Robinson seem to be available; they did not train earlier in the week, but this appears to be a case of keeping him cool, given their injury designation and the limited workload on Friday.

Mack is one of the best NFL players on both sides of the ball. The Jets would like to see him miss this match, but it is unlikely that they are less fortunate. That said, he may still be a bit limited by this ankle problem at the time of the match.
