A father-son team in Las Vegas, convicted of stealing nearly $ 10,000 from eight armed robberies last year, was sentenced to federal jail time on Friday.
Jessy James, 24, will spend two years in jail, while her 53-year-old father, Jeffrey James, a convicted bank robber, will serve a 15-year sentence, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Both men pleaded guilty to robbery in April.
The duo stole two banks and six tobacco shops in Clark County during a month beginning in January 2017, reported the Las Vegas Sun. Authorities said no one was injured, but the James stole about $ 10,000 and a supply of Marlboro cigarettes.
The court documents obtained by Review review Jameses brandishing employees with BB-gun revolvers and a replica assault rifle. The young James was sometimes a watchman, while in other robberies his father was the driver of the escape.
While he was stealing $ 4,000 from a credit union in late January 2017, the young James had threatened to shoot a cashier, according to the Review-Journal. They stole about $ 4,200 from a second crate during their last flight on February 16, 2017, reported KTNV-TV.
During a robbery at a tobacco shop in early February, both men demanded money but only left with Marlboro cigarettes, the Review-Journal reported.
The investigation has brought several law enforcement agencies, including the Henderson Police, the Las Vegas Metro Police and the FBI.
A surveillance video and witness descriptions helped the police find the couple at a Walmart parking lot in Henderson, where he was arrested in late February 2017, the Sun said. Their coffers contained money from savings and credit cooperatives and the police "recovered new evidence".
When the James are released, they will remain under surveillance for five years, officials said.
