The Marvel cinematic universe may be a well-oiled machine for the most part, but it's not without occasional controversy. During the third phase, everything went smoothly, until Guardians of the Galaxy director / screenwriter James Gunn was suddenly fired by Disney. This decision was made when Gunn's decade-old offensive tweets resurfaced, which led Marvel to separate from his director, probably the most visionary.
Since then, the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy the franchise was not clear because it is almost unfathomable to think that the band is working without Gunn's voice and point of view. Guardians 3 was delayed indefinitely, and the actors expressed support for their director. Karen Gillan (aka Nebula) recently spoke about the current state of the franchise and seems hoping that the third step will happen one day, stating:

The situation with James Gunn is a new territory for the franchise, and it is particularly complicated because of the specificity of the director and the franchise.
Given the time elapsed since the MCU has released films, the directors have been replaced several times. Franchises like Captain America, Iron Man and Thor were transmitted relatively easily, without any significant interruption of history. But most properties are not Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Scrappy Ensemble project brought in a lot of money when he debuted in 2014, presenting a lesser known group of Marvel characters to a wider audience. James Gunn has exposed his point of view, his sense of humor, his musical tastes and even his dance has been incorporated into both franchise films – a method working in the manner of a gangbusters.
So, once James Gunn was fired by Disney, it seemed like the guardians the franchise could be dead. After all, how could it work without Gunn? The director has also just completed his first draft of Guardians 3The script of, and we do not know if this will be used to develop the threequel. Actor Dave Bautista asserted that he would leave his role if Gunn's draft was not used. So there is a ton of balls in the air for the favorite property of the fans.
