ATLANTA – This weekend of the last weekend of advance polls before the general election on November 6th.
Less than two weeks before polling day, Cobb County officials said that just over 38,000 people voted early, up from 15,000 last week. Cobb is one of the five largest counties in the state with the highest participation rate. The counties of Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Henry complete the rest of the top five.
At the state level, nearly 945,000 people have already voted before the general election.
Long waiting times for early voting are common in many parts of the state.
In Cobb County, wait times of three hours or more for early voting have been observed. Starting on Monday, Cobb Election Officers will increase the number of advance polls from two to 11. Normally, Cobb County would open four offices in the last week of advance polls for a mid-term election. .

"We are seeing a strong turnout in this election, which we would not normally see midway through," said Janine Eveler, Cobb County's Chief Electoral Officer.
