DUBAI (Reuters) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that the United States was isolated among its traditional allies in their confrontation with Iran, and that even Europe was siding with Tehran against Iran. reimposition of US sanctions.
Rouhani was speaking at the beginning of a parliamentary session to discuss a cabinet reshuffle that included a new economy minister, academic Farhad Dejpasand, considered a technocrat, and three other ministers related to the economy.
"It does not happen often that the United States makes a decision and that their traditional allies abandon it," Rouhani told parliament in a live broadcast broadcast on state television.
Washington reinstated sanctions against Iran's currency, metals and auto trade in August after withdrawing from a 2015 multinational agreement that lifts sanctions in exchange for a program cut Iranian nuclear power.
European countries have criticized the withdrawal of the United States from the agreement and have developed a set of economic measures to mitigate the effects of US pressure on Tehran's economy.
US restrictions on Iran's vital oil exports will come into effect on Nov. 4.
"Our main enemy, America, is facing us with a naked sword and we must fight it and we must unite.Whatever factions … we are all part of the Iranian nation," he said. Rouhani, urging the deputies to vote for his proposed ministers.
"Part of our economic problems are linked to the (high) exchange rate of hard currencies, but our foreign exchange reserves are better than those of the last five years," he said, without giving any figures.
The changes proposed by the Cabinet come as the government is under intense pressure on economic instability caused mainly by US sanctions.
The economy has deteriorated sharply over the past year, with inflation and unemployment rising, a 70% fall in the value of the Russian currency so far this year and state corruption .
"A year ago, nobody would have thought … that Europe would stand alongside Iran and against America," Rouhani said.
"Russia, China, India, the European Union and some African and Latin American countries are our friends, we need to work with them and attract investment," he said. he added.
