Michael Bisping "sad to see" Demetrious Johnson leave, wondering if that means the end of the flyweight division UFC

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) community was launched earlier this week when it was announced that former UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson, could be traded to the ONE Championship in exchange for Ben Askren.

This rumor was made official earlier in the day (Saturday, October 27, 2018), according to a report by ESPN.

One of the best fighters from the pound to the pound of sports history, "Mighty Mouse" has dominated for nearly six years in the UFC Featherweight Division before losing its title against Henry Cejudo earlier this year at the UFC 227. Johnson record of 11 consecutive defeats under the UFC.

In light of the announcement that the UFC would exchange "Mighty Mouse" against ONE, some of the best MMA players have been willing to share their views. Former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, as frank as he wants, is saddened by the fact that Johnson will no longer compete in the indoor & outdoor # 39; Octagon.

"First of all, it's sad to see Demetrious Johnson leave," Bisping said in a recent edition of UFC tonight. "This guy was the pioneer of the flyweight division. That was the guy. He was the face of it.

"Of course, he recently lost to Henry Cejudo, but I still believe he's one of the best, if not the best fighter from the pound to the pound of the world. So sad to see him go.

Considering that the UFC just dropped the best featherweight of all time, does that mean the rest of the division is in danger? Although the weight class struggled to produce the best talent in the past, a ton of good fighters are currently facing 125 pounds.

That said, Bisping thinks that Johnson's release could create a domino effect on the rest of the weights.

"Sad to see [Demetrious Johnson leave] from a personal point of view, but does that mean the end of the flyweight division? Asked Bisping. "I mean, if the UFC is willing to let Demetrious Johnson go – as I say the face of this division – does that mean it will cancel division 125?

"Forcing them to fight at 135 or force them to fight for ONE FC in Asia. Who knows? A lot of questions."

We will have to wait to see if UFC believes that Cejudo can lead the flyweight division in 2019 or if the 125-pound category will be a thing of the past.
