SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – Eric Dungey has scored three touchdowns and scored another, and Syracuse has resisted the state of North Carolina to be eligible for the playoffs for the first time in five years.
Syracuse (6-2, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who broke a two-game losing streak in the last defeat with a 40-37 double overtime win over North Carolina, improved to 5 -0 in the Carrier Dome.
N.C. State (5-2, 2-2), who had just won his first loss of the season, beating 41-7 at No. 2 Clemson, fell behind, rallied and ran out of time. Orange linebacker Andrew Armstrong sealed the win with an interception on the Wolfpack 23-yard line with a time remaining of 2:18.
Dungey finished 27 of 38 out of a total of 411 yards passing with zero turnaround

The state of North Carolina will attempt to rebound after its first loss of the season to 2nd place at Clemson, while the Tigers have sent off their biggest challenge in the Atlantic Division of ACC. Syracuse, undefeated at home, can tie the Wolfpack in the division with a win. The winner becomes eligible for a bowl game.
KEY MATCHUP
Syracuse's defense against the offense of the state of North Carolina. The Orange ranks fifth in national defending defense in third place, is tied for 27th in red defense, but is 94th in total defense (416.4) and 70th in defense by score (26.9), after having allocated 108 points in the last three games. Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley has passed the 300-yard mark, surpassing four times this season. Rookie Redshirt saved the Orange with a superb performance in relief from Dungey in the overtime win over North Carolina last week, scoring for three touchdowns after coming into play at the end of the fourth quarter. DeVito also excelled in the second half of Syracuse's Florida State victory in mid-September and coach Dino Babers will not hesitate to insert it.
