Volkan light heavyweight "No Time" Oezdemir and Anthony "Lionheart" Smith clashed tonight (Saturday, October 27, 2018) at the Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Events Center, live and free on Fox Sports 1 Anthony Smith, a former middleweight friend, was trying to build on two quick wins against former Albiet champion Rashad Evans Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. They touched gloves. Oezdemir opened with a kick. Anthony Smith made a takedown that Oezdemir padded and then reversed his positions against the cage. Oezdemir held him for a few moments as they swapped the knees of the body and legs, then parted. Smith kicked and Volkan came in with a barrage of punches until Smith turned around, stuffing Smith another shot. Volkan stung, threw a left hook. He pressed Smith against the cage, ate a hook, made the universal gesture, saying "Is that all you got?" Smith used a left hook when Volkan interposed and landed on the right. The referee stopped the fight for a Smith eyepoke. They restarted. Oezdemir came out aggressive, Smith dropped it with a lead hook. Volkan ate a right hand, led Smith back with another combination. They stalled against the cage, Oezdemir controlling Smith against the cage.
Oezdemir opened with kicks in the leg, pushing Smith's front leg. "Lionheart" countered with a big right hand, then another, supporting Oezdemir with a combination. Oezdemir maintained his strategy of low shots, then, when Smith intervened too aggressively, he shot him, advancing half-guardian. Smith tried to clear him, but Oezdemir deflated and smacked Smith out of the wrestler's merry-go-round as Smith squirmed. Oezdemir landed at the knee when Smith grabbed one of his wrists to stop his punches. Oezdemir finally worked without a wrist, as Smith seemed to be content to remain tortured while Oezdemir was working for the rest of the round.
Volkan maintained his striker strategy in the third, Smith looking for an opening in the shot. Smith put a hook, then another, supporting Oezdemir. Volkan landed a right hand, ate one, and Smith won and landed one knee. He swept away Volkan for a moment and they punched each other in the pocket. Volkan landed a few elbows. Both men looked exhausted. Smith landed almost a Batman suit. shot low and almost simultaneous simultaneously, before descending Volkan with a doubled. Volkan, meanwhile, said he felt that the dynamics were changing and that he was having trouble breathing after Smith broke his nose again. He said that he would be back, and that he would fight as soon as he could.
