YAMANASHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Sunday visited an industrial robot manufacturing plant in Yamanashi prefecture, west of Tokyo.

"PM @narendramodi and PM @AbeShinzo visited FANUC Corporation, one of the largest industrial robot manufacturers in the world at #Yamanashi, and visited the robotics and automation facilities" Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson, tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Modi was affectionately greeted by Abe when he arrived at Mount Fuji Hotel in the picturesque Yamanashi Prefecture.

"Nice to meet Prime Minister @AbeShinzo in the picturesque prefecture of Yamanashi," tweeted Modi.

The two leaders went for a walk in the garden.

Abe organized a lunch for Modi at the hotel at the foot of Mount Fuji.

He will also host Modi at his holiday home in Yamanashi for a private dinner on Sunday, after which the two leaders will travel to Tokyo by train.

Yamanashi, located about 110 km from Tokyo, is surrounded by several mountains, including Mount Fuji, the highest peak in the country (about 3,776 meters).

The two leaders will meet Monday in Tokyo for an official summit during which the strengthening of bilateral cooperation on security and economic cooperation should feature prominently on the agenda.

Modi said that he would act from his 12th meeting with Abe since his first visit to Japan as prime minister in September 2014.

During this summit, Modi will engage with Abe on various issues, including defense and regional security.

In addition to bilateral issues, the two leaders should consider various regional and global issues, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
