SUNBURY-ON-THAMES, England – He will not talk about it. He can not talk about it.
The reality is that Zach Ertz is experiencing one of the greatest seasons of all time.
The relationship between Ertz and Eagles fans is strange. All it does is produce huge numbers and yet, many fans focus on a mistaken belief that it should in one way or another accumulate more yards after recovery.
He made the decisive touchdown in the Eagles' first Super Bowl championship and continued on that track with the hottest start to a tight start to the NFL.
And yet, many of the fans choose to focus on the fact that Ertz does not get into the habit of tackling heroically when carrying two linebackers and a safety on the back for extra ground.
In fact, Ertz is experiencing a remarkable season in every respect.
"Having Zach out there, my favorite attribute about him, is how smart he is," said Carson Wentz on Friday at the rugby complex in Hazelton. "He sometimes asks for the check before I even do it. We are in everyone's mind with these kinds of things.
"Just knowing where he is going to be, knowing his body language and knowing how he plays is important to us. We are good friends and it really helps us on the field too. We have excellent chemistry. "
Let's look at the numbers:
• Entering the Eagles game, Ertz has 57 catches for 630 yards. The 57 catches are six more than any tight end after seven games. The 618 yards are sixth all-time, 56 shy of Jimmy Graham's record of 674 in 2011.
• Ertz averages 8.1 per game. He must average exactly 6.0 the rest of the year to break Jason Witten's record of 110 catches in a tight season in 2012. He is on the road for 1412 yards, breaking the record of 1,327 in one. season, established in 2011 by Rob Gronkowski.
• Ertz now has 378 receptions, already the seventh in its history with a tight end to its first six seasons. He needs another 57 catches to break Graham's record with 434 caught by a tight end in his first six seasons.
• Ertz already has eight career games with 10 or more shots. Tony Gonzalez (15), Witten (11) and Ozzie Newsome (11) are the only things that are tight.
• To return to last year's playoffs, Ertz has played nine consecutive games with five or more catches. That equals the NFL record for tight sleeves set in 2012 by Jason Witten. He also tied the Eagles record with Irving Fryar and Brian Westbrook.
Ertz has already climbed from 11th to 5th place in the history of the Eagles in career receptions, ahead of only Harold Carmichael (589), Pete Retzlaff (452), Brian Westbrook (426) and Brent Celek (398) .
Ertz is naturally reluctant to talk about his personal achievements while the Eagles are 3-4 and are losers in three of their last four games:
I think it's hard to focus on individual things right now. It's difficult in the sense that even if I have 10 assists in a loss, it does not matter. I much prefer to have two catches and win only 10 catches in a defeat. I'm just trying to do everything in my power to allow the team to win football games. Carson and I see the game extremely similar. If you are able to see the game in the same way with the quarterback – and that only develops in time – then you will be able to succeed. When you play with a guy like Carson, it obviously helps. But we have to win football games and that's what matters to me right now. After the season, I hope in February, I can talk more about it.
Nobody draws more from their abilities than Ertz. Nobody prepares harder than Ertz. No one is more leader than Ertz.
It's time for people to focus on all the positive things they bring to the table instead of a negative one.
Ertz is only 27 years old and is in his sixth season, but he is already a big eagle.
