Here is a recap of the last round of WGC-HSBC Champions at Sheshan International GC in Shanghai, China.
WINNER: The rapid appearance of Xander Schauffele on the stage continued on Sunday.
Schauffele closed the match with a total of under 14 to qualify for the playoffs with Tony Finau and birdied the first extra hole to grab the title. This is the third victory of the PGA Tour and the first WGC title at age 25.
For Schauffele, it was a winless campaign for 2017-18, but which was preceded by a quick jump that pushed him to fight for his PGA Tour card in the 2016-17 season to a double winner of triumph circuit at the Tour Championship).
Although he did not win last season, Schauffele still finished five of the top three in the world. This included a long race at Carnoustie that had almost seen him win the British Open (he would finish in T-2).
Schauffele started the finals in China three after Tony Finau, but he had taken the solo lead by the time he reached 14 t-shirts. Schauffele had already played 3 under golf while Finau had had 1 thanks to three bogueys.
A Finau birdie in the 14th square took over and he took the lead solo when Schauffele taunted the No. 15. heading to the 72nd hole.
Both birds have achieved the par 5 to set up a playoff series.
The pair returned to 18 for the playoffs, with Schauffele playing perfectly. He left about 25 feet for the eagle on the green, while Finau was 20 feet for the bird's bangs. Schauffele was lagging behind and was good for a birdie.
Finau had to lengthen and his putt was online, but he was missing a few centimeters.

JUST MISSED: Finau was the 36- and 54-hole leader and seemed poised to win that second PGA Tour win that he had been waiting patiently for his first win at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. But he was not supposed to be. This is his second finalist in his last six starts and he has not finished worse than T-15 since the PGA Championship.
PLAN OF THE DAY: He never threatened Sunday the circle of winners, but Thomas Pieters lived a glorious moment …
SHORT SHORT: Defending champion Justin Rose was in the game late, but a pair of bogeys relegated him to a 72 and a third solo at 10 under. Still, not a bad defense of the title. … Patrick Reed, the leader of the first round, closed in 77 to leave five places in the T-7 at 5 cents. … Jason Day also struggled on Sunday. His sweeter 74 saw him place T-11 at 4 under. … In his debut at No. 1 worldwide, Brooks Koepka has never contested. But a final round of 69 allowed him to show a T-16 at 2 cents. … Dustin Johnson finished 3 for T-30. … Rory McIlroy failed to break any game and scored 10 points. This is an approximate result in T-54.
