The Pittsburgh Steelers observe a moment of silence for the victims of a shootings in the synagogue

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers watched a minute of silence inside Heinz Field before Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns to pay tribute to the victims of mass shooting at Saturday's Tree of Life synagogue.

The respectful moment captured a bleak weekend, with dozens of Steelers players having posted supportive tweets on Saturday afternoon. The attack occurred in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood, just a few miles from the Steelers' practice center.

"On behalf of the entire organization of the Steelers, we offer our support and our condolences to the families of the attack of peaceful citizens praying at the synagogue of the Tree of Life," said the president of the the team, Art Rooney II, in a statement released Sunday morning. "Our hearts are heavy, but we must oppose anti-Semitism and hate crimes of all kinds and unite to preserve our values ​​and our community."

Defensive end Cam Heyward entered the stadium with a t-shirt with a heart around the word "Pittsburgh". Many fans inside Heinz sported the "Stronger than Hate" sign associating the Steelers' logo with the Star of David.
