The Boeing 737 JT 610 flight was carrying 181 passengers, including one child and two babies, as well as six crew members and two pilots, according to officials who spoke at a press conference Monday.

The RS deployed boats, helicopters and 130 rescuers, including teams from three cities, including Jakarta, Bandung and Lampung, near the accident site in the Java Sea, 34 nautical miles from the coast, near from Jakarta.

Debris, lifejackets and a cell phone were discovered two nautical miles from the coordinates indicated as the site of the crash, officials said.

Images of debris have been published by the agency, which is still trying to locate the emergency location transmitter that is not currently transmitting, he added.

The plane took off from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Jakarta Metropolitan Area, at 6:21 am local time. and was scheduled to land at around 7:30 am at Pangkal Pinan, the largest city on the Indonesian island of Bangka.

A spokesman for the low-cost carrier confirmed to CNN affiliate CNN Indonesia that it lost contact with the flight shortly after take-off. The flight was last recorded in the regency of Thousand Islands, an archipelago north of Jakarta.

At a press conference organized by the agency, officials said the plane was 3,000 meters above sea level when it lost touch. Australian air traffic controllers were called but could not detect the aircraft.

Lion Air acquired the aircraft in August 2018, all documents were valid until 2023, officials said.

An image released by Indonesian rescue agents of debris extracted from the water.

It is unlikely that weather conditions played a role in the accident. According to CNN meteorologist Haley Brink, there were thunderstorms in the area, but there was no storm at the point where the plane apparently disappeared from the radar.

Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, tweeted that he was "aware" of the incident and "was watching the situation closely".
