The far-right cousin Gab disallows after shooting a synagogue – Variety

Gab.com, the Twitter-like service used by marginal rights members, suspended operations Sunday night after its hosting provider and domain name host canceled their business dealings with the company.

The reaction to Gab comes after the announcement that Robert Bowers, who is being used by the police, killed 11 people in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday morning. Bowers had an active account on Gab, where he was publishing antisemitic conspiracy theories, some messages claiming that the caravan of migrants across Mexico was the work of a Jewish conspiracy.

Gab withdrew the Bowers account following the shooting, but the company spent a good part of the weekend defending positions like Bowers. As a result, Gab has been abandoned by the Joyent cloud hosting provider as well as Paypal and Stripe payment processors.

When the domain name provider, Godaddy, gave the company 24 hours to move his service elsewhere, Gab then removed the connection, announcing to his subscribers on Twitter that he would be unreachable for "a certain period of time" .

Gab's attempts to restore its service seem complicated by the fact that the company does not hold its domain name but its payment plan, which is not unusual for high-value domain names, including all of them. compound domains only. three letters.

Gab is not the only company to be scrutinized for not banning extremist views. Last week, news announced that the Florida man suspected of sending more than a dozen homemade bombs to high-ranking Democrats had already threatened President Trump's critics on Twitter.

The company responded to this by stating that it had made a mistake by leaving the tweets in question available on its service. "We want Twitter to be a place where people feel safe and we know we have a lot of work to do," the company said in a tweet.
