TBILISI (Reuters) – The presidential election in Georgia will take place at the end of the second round, the country's Central Election Commission (CEC) said on Monday.

After counting 100% of the first round of voting on Sunday, former French diplomat Salomé Zourabichvili won 38.7% of the vote, compared with 37.7% for former Foreign Minister Grigol. Vashadze. of the vote, said the CEC.

Tamar Zhvania, president of the CEC, said that there had been irregularities, but that no serious violations had been committed during the elections.

Zurabishvili was supported by the ruling Georgian ruling party, while Vashadze stood in the name of a new platform of eleven opposition parties led by the unified national movement of former president Mikheil Saakashvili.

The second ballot will be held no later than 2 December.
