Matthews' Butler High School was locked up early Monday after a student was shot dead on campus inside one of the buildings, reports a Facebook post published by Charlotte Schools. Mecklenburg.
Another student was arrested as a suspect, the Matthews police department reported in a tweet.

The school is located just outside Charlotte, at 1810 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. The WSOC reported live that angry parents were gathering around the campus, despite the fact that they had to wait for the latest news at nearby Church Elevation Church on East Independence Blvd.
One of the parents told WSOC live that his son had reported that the shooting had occurred after a fight that had broken out near the school cafeteria.
No one, including the parents, was allowed to visit the Butler High campus until the police lifted the lock, CMS officials said.
However, many parents ignored the command and dozens of people stood outside the school gate when the students started leaving the building shortly after 9 am.
Students were escorted from the building at the entrance to meet parents, CMS said in a Facebook message.
"Use patience to ensure the safety of all and we appreciate your cooperation," said the CMS post. "Classes will be held today on campus for the remaining students."
