Five days after sending a pipe-pipe to CNN, a network often criticized by the president, Trump tweeted that "inaccurate" information is partly behind the "great anger in our country".

"The false media, the real enemy of the people, must put an end to open and obvious hostility and report accurately and fairly on the news," he tweeted. "The false news must end!"

Lawmakers and commentators on both sides of the aisle have urged Trump to refrain from making divisive comments following the bombings of CNN and eminent Democrats this week. and deadly mass shootings at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue on Saturday.

Anthony Scaramucci, who was ousted from the White House's communications directorate after just eleven days last year, told CNN on Sunday that Trump should "tone down" his speech.

"There is no need to wage war on the media," Scaramucci said. "You know, as far as I'm concerned, you can have a contradictory relationship, but we should defuse that sort of thing."

A few hours later, CNN announced that another "suspicious package" sent to the network had been intercepted Monday in an Atlanta mail center. The package was similar to the others sent to the network and to well-known Democrats last week, CBS News reported.
