The Kiss' End of the Road tour may take place three months from now, but that did not stop them from telling the audience what to expect from the show. In a series of interviews, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley promised an expanded set list and a completely redesigned set. "We have practically thrown everything on stage for at least 10 years and created a whole new scene and brand new show," said Paul Stanley. "We do not crawl to the finish line, we celebrate."
But there are still a ton of unresolved issues. Here are six things we hope that they will consider making the show really special for their long time fans.
Create a list of rotating assemblies
Like many rock-arena bands of their era, Kiss has always loved creating a singular set list and keeping it throughout a tour. When you work with pyro, harnesses and other technical feats, it's a lot easier when things do not change, night by night. That said, a lot of fans probably want to see more of a concert and it would be nice if there was at least one variation built into the show. This would be unprecedented, but a farewell visit is the perfect time to throw out the old rule book.
Play the albums
Kiss has done almost every type of tour imaginable, except the one where they play their classic albums. Why not organize a series of special concerts where they play Living!, Destructive and Gun of love straight ahead? Paul Stanley has announced his intention to do longer shows than in the last few years, which would give them plenty of time to play hits that were not on a given album.
Bring Ace Frehley back
Nothing the band could do would please hardcore fans more than bring back original guitarist Ace Frehley. It seemed an impossible proposition just a few years ago, but he just finished a tour abroad with Gene Simmons, where they shared the stage every night and looked like old comrades. Ace is more than able to return to her former makeup and play her roles. "The only way to seriously consider it is to take back my makeup, my costume and my character – which I designed," he said recently. Vintage Rock. "Tommy Thayer is not a bad guitarist, but he basically mimics everything I've written and tries to imitate my character." This brings us to our next proposal.
Ditch Tommy Thayer
We do not want to disrespect Tommy Thayer, who is indeed an excellent guitarist. He has been a loyal member of Kiss for many years now, so giving up may seem cruel and Gene and Paul would naturally be reluctant to consider it. But how else could Ace return? He will sit behind the scenes while other guys wear his makeup and play a set that is only songs of his time? They will play "Love Gun" and he will play backgammon in his dressing room? He is supposed to come just for reminders? If he's not wearing makeup, he would be next to his own imitator. If there is in the makeup, there will be two Spacemen. It would be crazy. Unfortunately, the only way it works is that Thayer leaves. This is always the risk you take when you replace an iconic member of a group. The original may come back and you will be unemployed.
Give Peter Criss a very important role
As Ace Frehley said at 72, it would probably be very difficult for Criss to play drums for two hours a night for months. That does not mean he can not participate in the tour. Like Alan White during the last Yes tour, he can participate in concerts every night and play drums. He can also sing "Beth". Each show should end with the original quartet on stage. There are obviously countless legal, financial and ego related issues, but they should find a way to do it for the fans. We're just talking about old friends playing a bunch of old songs that people like. It should not be so complicated.
Finding room for Bruce Kulick and Vinnie Vincent
It is obvious that the series will focus on the band's 70s, but there should be space to honor the music he created in the 1980s and early 1990s. Fans love Bruce Kulick and Vinnie Vincent and it would be great to see them come back on stage in any capacity. Vinnie's decision to try to name the name "Vinnie Vincent's Kiss" is not appealing to Kiss or their lawyers, but if he moves away from this ill-conceived idea, they might be able to welcome him again . Imagine if Ankh Warrior played some songs with Kiss perfectly made up? The army of kisses would become completely crazy.
(Note: we realize that most of these scenarios are extreme long-range plans, to put it mildly, we'll just watch Ace come back on stage with the band for at least one song on a show. Let's start with that.)
