The Paramount network fired two episodes of its troubled "Heathers" series on Sunday, one day after shooting in a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 people. The two episodes that were to be aired included a scenario related to shooting in a school.
The decision to stop the episodes upset the timeline of the series, which Paramount aired in excessive style during the week. The season finale, which was previously modified to remove a scenario on a school skipping, is still scheduled to air Monday night on the Paramount network.
"Heathers" had a crooked path to the screen. Originally developed for TV Land before switching to Paramount Network, the cable operator Viacom, the show was to serve as one of the first springboards for the launch of the latter after Spike's name change. The series – a lyrical series based on the feature film of the same name – was postponed to its initial launch on March 7, following the shooting of the film in Parkland, Florida, in February. The first is scheduled for July 10, but after another shooting at a school that killed 10 people at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, in May, Paramount Network decided to withdraw the series indefinitely.
Paramount Network then resumed the show after no US buyer could be found. The first took place on October 25th. The network broadcast two episodes a night.
The two episodes taken from the Sunday evening linear schedule will still be available via VOD.
