Day 5 in the Dubai Fitness Challenge and I have good news. Yesterday I exercised and ate myself clean! Yay!
By "healthy eating", I mean that I followed a ketogenic diet. I know a lot of people might think it's a fad … but guess what … it works! We have published many articles in Gulf News about Keto's successes and one of those very specific success stories is right in front of me right now. My colleague Dona, who has lost 7 kg in the last 6 weeks. During the last month and a half, her skin has cleared and she has stopped feeling bloated. All this is done by removing carbohydrates, sugar and increasing its fat consumption. A diet that involves butter, cream and cheese? Count on me!
A few days after starting the diet, I realized how hard it is to not eat carbohydrates, sugar or even fruit. I realized that I had to plan my meals and snacks. I had to be calculated and focused. The four days were tough, but I did not feel as hungry as I thought. The fat in my diet kept me full. The last three days of my keto diet have been pretty strict, my first two days were not so strict to be honest. It was the weekend after all!
I still have not lost weight, but I feel less swollen and more energetic. I look thinner, but the figure on the scale has not moved yet. Still stuck at 77kgs. One of the advantages of a keto diet is that it does not slow down your social life. You can always eat in the restaurant and enjoy some fat, cream and butter.
By cons, I heard mixed reviews on Keto. Most people say that life is changing, while others say that removing food groups can only do more harm than good. I'm ready to try anything if I can start burning fat, instead of carbs for energy.
Just to explain:
■ Keto diet is a low carb diet; so low that the body goes from carbohydrates and sugar to fat for fuel.
■ Keto's diet is not just about reducing carbohydrates, it's also high in protein and protein.

A ketogenic diet is based on a diet high in fat (over 80% fat), moderate protein and an extremely low carbohydrate intake (20 g). All grains, dairy products, most fruits, some vegetables, some nuts, legumes and legumes are not usually consumed with a ketogenic diet.

What are the advantages of the Keto diet?
What's positive about a ketogenic diet is that it discourages the consumption of alcohol and refined carbohydrates, and focuses on the consumption of non-starchy vegetables and good fats, from which we can all benefit. It has also been shown to be effective in terms of early weight loss and some people are using it to achieve their initial goals, but in terms of long-term weight maintenance (> 12 months), it has not been effective; most patients struggling to achieve their goals. maintain the keto lifestyle.
What about the disadvantages?
The most common initial side effects of a ketogenic diet are often called "keto flu". They cause (initially) tiredness, headaches, dizziness, nausea, irritability, hair loss, bad breath and constipation while your body is adapting. The main drawback is that at this point, we simply do not know what are the long-term effects of a ketogenic metabolic health and intestinal health.

I think I will try Keto seriously. I really do not think I could last more than a month with this diet. To be honest, I do not think I want to.
I love carbohydrates and I believe that eating a small amount every day will not be so bad. But for now, I'm the "Dubai Fitness Challenge", the Yousra, and not just the usual Yousra. I stay on the diet, just to see what will happen in the next few weeks.
Will I lose 10 kg in a month? I doubt it … but I would be really happy with only five.
