In a season full of distractions for the Giants, the locker room was treated again after the arrest on Tuesday morning of rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta for a traffic violation.
"We were informed of the situation this morning," said Giants head coach Pat Shurmur at NJ Advance Media. "And we've been in touch with Kyle, we're still gathering information, and it's obviously very disappointing."
Several players told NJ Advance Media that Shurmur had not warned the Lauletta arrest team before training. However, Lauletta was not at practice, nor at the Quest Diagnostics training center on Tuesday.
Rookie Saquon Barkley was shocked by the news of Lauletta's arrest and by the facts surrounding the incident.
"I'm really very surprised," said Barkley after Tuesday's training. "I do not know too much about it – it's one more question for coach Shurmur – I know Kyle very well – it was really shocking, I'm not sure about that." to talk about it .. I know that sounds crazy, but it 's probably nothing, because of its kind.
Several of Barkley's former teammates declined to comment on the arrest.
Details of Lauletta's arrest
Sources at Weehawken who learned about the incident said the 23-year-old was trying to turn right from the wrong lane to Route 495 West. He was then invited to continue straight. Lauletta made the right turn and almost crushed the officer who was directing the traffic. Another officer stopped him at the end of the ramp.
One of the sources said that Lauletta did the same thing yesterday morning, but he was not arrested. Police have seen his registration plate and he receives two convocations by mail, said the source.
