According to the Associated Press, a couple who fatally fell about 300 meters from a Yosemite National Park were adventurers taking a selfie.

Meenakshi Moorthy, 30, and her husband Vishnu Viswanath, 29, had set up a tripod near the edge of Taft Point, Viswanath's brother Jishnu Viswanath told AP. The visitors found the camera the next morning and alerted the authorities, said Viswanath.

The couple, who were Indian expatriates living in California, had a documented history of taking bold pictures.

In March, the couple released one of these photos from a Grand Canyon tour on Instagram, reported NPR.

A travel blog now deleted with thousands of followers contained photos of the couple sitting at the edge of cliffs and jumping aircraft, according to AP.

The couple's alma mater – the Chengannur Engineering College – lamented their loss in a message posted on Facebook Saturday: "Our thoughts are with friends and family members of this lovely couple, let their souls rest in peace. . "

Self-related deaths are a growing problem, a recent study found. The study, published by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, documented more than 250 deaths by selfie between October 2011 and November 2017.
