A group of 11 friends who play the lottery together will share $ 1 million after missing the $ 1.5 billion jackpot last week, a million.
Giang Kim Nguyen, of Arlington, buys Mega Millions tickets once a week for the group. Some have known each other since high school nearly 40 years ago.
They matched the first five numbers and missed the Mega Ball number on October 23 with a ticket purchased from Giant Food in Dale City. According to Virginia Lottery, this was one of two million dollar winning tickets sold in Virginia for this draw.
Hieu Vo from Woodbridge sent a group text shortly after the draw with a photo of the ticket saying, "We won!"
"They all thought I was joking," he said.
