Oct. 31 (UPI) — The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Tra Carson, one day after trading Ty Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst announced the signing on Wednesday. The Packers also signed running back Lavon Coleman to the practice squad.
Carson signed to the Packers’ practice squad on Oct. 9. The 5-foot-11, 228-pound running back originally entered the NFL in 2016 as an undrafted free agent signing out of Texas A&M. Carson spent almost all of his rookie campaign on the Bengals’ practice squad. He was on injured reserve during the 2017 season and was waived with an injury designation by the Bengals after Week 2.
Carson picked up 77 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries this preseason for the Bengals, but never registered a carry during the regular season.
Coleman entered the league in May as an undrafted free agent signing by the Houston Texans. The 5-foot-11, 216-pound rookie was released by the Texans in September. He spent time on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad. Coleman had 2,000 yards and 12 scores in 50 games at the University of Washington.
Carson comes in behind Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams at running back on the Packers’ depth chart.
The Packers face the New England Patriots at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
