The UFC website shows that Daniel Cormier is no longer the champion of light heavyweights

As usual with the UFC, there was not much clarity as to their titles. It's usually quite simple, but when it comes to transition belts or becoming champions in two divisions, the water starts to get a little muddy.

When the situation concerned Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson, the two men were undressed early in the battle of UFC 223 between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Al Iaquinta. A new champion has been crowned and things have progressed.

In the case of Daniel Cormier, it's a little different. Cormier won the UFC heavyweight title by stopping Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. It soon became apparent that Cormier was intent on defending this title against Brock Lesnar, and the promotion indicated that he would take the title of 205 pounds. He was then caught in the main event of UFC 230 without delay, defending the title of the big man against Derrick Lewis. The UFC also played the match between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson in December for the title of 205 pounds, which only cement.

Cormier thinks that if he loses against Lewis, he could defend his title at 205 pounds and should not be forced to give up both belts to lose one.

Well, it seems that the UFC made the decision and made the decision for it – at least according to their website.

It goes without saying that it's the Jones / Gus fight of December 29th. So, I guess we can not really call DC the double champion anymore, even though he uses the UFC 230 media this week with both belts on his shoulders.
