Rami Malek appeared in a recent episode of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's "The HFPA in Conversation" podcast, where he spoke about the broadcast of roles in "Terrorist Roles Par excellence" and his upcoming concert in the movie, Freddie Mercury Bohemian Rhapsody.
"I watched actors that I knew going to auditions with a name and a year later, I would see them at auditions – actors from the Middle East, we audition for this terrorist role par excellence – and I saw them sign with I understood myself, but it never spoke to me, it was something I had to do. I've always been about to say, "Well, he's not … I guess pretty Middle Eastern" or "he's not Caucasian enough". So it was always difficult for me to try to navigate.
About Queen, he said that "Somebody to Love" was his favorite song and that he was sharing some points with Mercury: "He never goes halfway so I just tried to do it. imitate this aspect of him as much as possible to the point that his sister was on the set a day with us and I think she saw me go too far by maybe asking for one or two extra sockets I probably did not take it, and she wrote me an email, "Freddie was also a perfectionist, but he always knew how to have a good time."
