Dozens of Bezos must protest against facial recognition of Amazon
Dozens of protesters rallied in front of the Amazon Spheres on Wednesday to denounce Amazon's cooperation with the US Immigration and Customs Service around the new face recognition system.
In November 2017, Amazon announced facial recognition in real time, a tool used in its Rekognition technology. Amazon said in a blog post that the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Oregon had used this technology, adding, "Over the last year, the time of identification of reported suspects has been reduced from two to three. three days to a few minutes and they apprehended their first suspect in the week, using their new system. "

In May 2018, the ACLU wrote to Jeff Bezos asking him not to sell surveillance technology to law enforcement. In the letter, they said that "recognition is a powerful surveillance system, available to violate rights and target communities of color".
The letter also stated that, rather than restricting the use of technology by the government, Amazon had facilitated the use of this technology by providing technical support and free consulting services.
"Amazon has even signed a confidentiality agreement with a major client of the forces of order," says the letter.

At noon on Halloween, protesters donned Jeff Bezos' mask and shouted "No technology for ICE!" The protest, organized by NWDC Resistance and MiJente, called on Amazon to stop marketing its software to ICE and other law enforcement agencies and to support the Trump Administration's immigration policies.
Protestant Elizabeth Pring said she was present because Amazon's software "allowed ICE to target vulnerable communities."
