WhatsApp is going all Facebook on us and presents ads

It looks like Mark Zuckerberg is about to start recovering some of the $ 22 billion that he spent to buy WhatsApp in 2014.

The messaging application will begin to introduce ads in the 'Status' tab that can be viewed by more than 1.5 billion people.

Chris Daniels, vice president of the company, confirmed to Outlook India that it would be the future source of money for WhatsApp.

To be fair, this movement does not come from nowhere. Since Facebook acquired WhatsApp, monetization would follow. The Wall Street Journal seemed to hit the nail in August by announcing that more than 100 companies were planning to start advertising the app from 2019 onwards.

At least the ads will not show in the middle of your discussions.

The Status tab is actually a version of Snapchat Stories in which users can post videos, images, or GIFs that disappear after 24 hours.

Facebook indicates that 450 million WhatsApp users are currently using the Status page.

According to the WSJ report, WhatsApp will charge businesses between $ 0.005 and $ 0.09 per potential customer contacted. Netflix would be one of the interested companies.

Given the sheer scale of WhatsApp nowadays, we can see that this movement occupies many pockets of Mr. Zuckerberg over the next few years.
