An Indonesian maid was executed by Saudi Arabia for killing her boss, who allegedly attempted to rape her.
The young mother Tuti Tursilawati was executed Monday as part of an execution that caused a public outcry.
She was sentenced in 2011 for the murder of her Saudi employer while she was defending herself from rape.
Before dying, her family went to see her in prison.
The execution, which took place in Thaif, in the province of Mecca, follows the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey.
The assassination of Mr. Khashoggi – a critic of Saudi rulers – last month turned into a political crisis for Riyadh.
Indonesia protested to Saudi Arabia over the execution of Ms. Tursilawati, who worked in the city of Taif.
He indicates that the kingdom has not informed his family or his consular staff in the first place.
President Joko Widodo called on Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir to protest and ask why Indonesia has not been informed of the maid's execution.
"We called Saudi Arabia's foreign minister and passed on our protest," he was quoted as saying by his secretary of state's office.

Ms. Tursilawati was found guilty of killing her boss in June 2011.
The Indonesian Migrant Care defense group said the mother had defended herself from having been raped during the 2010 incident.
The office of the secretary of cabinet cited the statement of Migrant Care.
According to the president, the Saudi ambassador to Indonesia was summoned to discuss the issue.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ignored the principles of human rights, including the right of everyone to live," said Abidin Fikri, member of the Indonesian parliament.

They were reportedly accompanied by officials during their visit to the housekeeper in prison before the execution.
Indonesia is the largest country in the world with a Muslim majority and generally maintains good relations with Saudi Arabia.
It also provides for the death penalty for certain crimes.
In Saudi Arabia, drug trafficking, rape, apostasy and armed robbery, as well as murder, are punishable by death. At present, 18 Indonesian migrant workers are on death row.
Indonesia has repeatedly called on Saudi Arabia to improve the protection of its workers in the kingdom, especially this month, when Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met al-Jubeir in Jakarta.
