J.R. Smith could be the next name for the Cleveland Cavaliers to move from the troubled franchise.
Just days after the dismissal of head coach Tyronn Lue, Smith said he wanted to be traded.
According to Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal, Smith says it's difficult to even put on a Cleveland jersey now.
This is not really shocking. Smith is one of many veterans on the Cavaliers list to participate in the trade negotiations around the league. It does not help either that Smith is one of the many veterans that Lue was trying to defeat the young players, a move that would have resulted in his dismissal of chief executive Koby Altman.
Although he was the starting guard of the Cavs during their four appearances in the NBA Finals, Smith's play time dropped dramatically in the post-LeBron James era. He not only lost his starting position, but he has also participated in only four of the team's seven games this season, averaging only 12.0 minutes per game.
Smith still plays the role of three points specialist, which means that he still has a place in this league even though he is entering his 15th season. However, with the Cavaliers clearly rebuilding and LeBron being no longer in the picture, Smith simply has no object in the 2018-19 team.
Negotiating as soon as possible the former sixth man of the year will only be beneficial for both parties.
