Real Salt Lake advanced to the semi-finals of the conference for the first time since 2014, beating LAFC 3-2 in the eighth-finals of the Audi MLS Cup playoffs on Thursday night at the Banc of California Stadium.
Jefferson Savarino's shot deflected off Walker Zimmerman's head and entered the LAFC net in the 69th minute. The goal of the game was won. RSL, seeded sixth in the West, overcame a 2-1 deficit in the second half and earned a pair-high scorer, Damir Kreilach, to qualify for the favorite at Sporting Kansas City in half-time. Western Conference final.
LAFC, seeded third, missed a golden opportunity for a playoff win in its first season of existence, and its successful season ended quickly.
Kreilach's second goal tied the score at 58 minutes after Christian Ramirez gave his first lead to LAFC. Kreilach scored in the 21st minute from a wide Brooks Lennon center on the head of CFL defender Danilo Silva to give RSL a 1-0 lead.
Silva expiated when he headed for Carlos Vela's free kick in the 31st minute. Immediately after, the match was suspended for five minutes in the first period because of objects thrown on the field by the supporters section.
LAFC had to make a replacement at half-time when Adama Diomande could not continue. Ramirez came in and scored a few moments later. RSL has survived several late opportunities and seven minutes of overtime in the second half to advance.

Three things
- THE GREAT IMAGE: The Real Salt Lake season was almost over Decision Day with the LA Galaxy winner. But the Galaxy has folded, supporting RSL in the sixth seed and facing a LAFC team on the road Thursday, RSL has succeeded. The team of coach Mike Petke will qualify for the home series and now plays with the house money. For LAFC, it was a night to forget, unruly fans with too many missed opportunities, thus ending a memorable first season.
- MOMENT OF THE GAMEKreilach's second goal was unbelievable. Almost as cool as Ralph Macchio's crane in "The Karate Kid", and strangely similar.

- MAN OF THE GAME: Damir Kreilach, who scored twice and was very involved in the game that set up his own goal. Honorable mention to Nick Rimando and his six stops, despite the objects thrown at him from the stands and the shock of a collision with Zimmerman in the second period.
