The US Army in Kabul said that a member of the US service had been killed in an "attack attack" in the capital Kabul.
Sgt. Debra Richardson, spokesman for First Class Resolute Support, said Saturday in a statement that another member of the US military service had been injured during the attack.
According to the statement, the attacker was a member of the Afghan security forces and initial reports indicate that the attacker was immediately killed by other Afghan forces.
The two US soldiers were evacuated for medical reasons to Bagram Airfield, where the injured soldier is on medical treatment and is in a stable state, the statement said.
The incident is under investigation.
Richardson stated that the name of the member of the service who was killed would be withheld until the next of kin was informed.
