Kabul, Afghanistan – A member of the US Armed Forces was killed in an "attack attack" in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, announced Saturday the US Army in Kabul. Sgt. Debra Richardson, spokesman for Resolute Support, first-class, said in a statement that another member of the US military service had been injured during the attack.

According to initial reports, the attacker was a member of the Afghan security forces and the assailant was immediately killed by other Afghan forces.

The two US soldiers were evacuated for medical reasons to Bagram Airfield, where the injured soldier is on medical treatment and is in a stable state, the statement said.

Richardson stated that the name of the member of the service who was killed would be withheld until the next of kin was informed. The incident is under investigation.

Charlie D & Agata of CBS News reported that more than 2,400 Americans were killed during the 17-year war. Earlier this year, Sgt. Major Timothy Bolyard was shot dead by a member of the Afghan security forces who had come to Afghanistan to train.

This attack followed another internal attack that cost the life of the 20-year-old corporal of the army. Joseph Maciel in July.
