(LEX 18) – The head of the Senate Judicial Committee is asking the FBI to investigate a Kentucky woman who says false accusations against U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican, sent a letter Friday to FBI Director Christopher Wray that identified an alleged Accused Judy Munro-Leighton, who said the letter lives in Kentucky.
According to Grassley's letter, Munro-Leighton feels an email. Oct. 3 to the Senate Committee's staff claiming that she was the woman behind an anonymous letter previously sent to Sen. Kamala Harris, a Democrat committee member from California.
That letter, presented only as "Jane Doe" from Oceanside, California, accused Kavanaugh of rape. Grassley's letter notes that Kavanaugh categorically denied the allegations.
Grassley says Munro-Leighton, in her email, claimed to be the California woman. The letter says that the Senate has been able to contact Munro-Leighton and said she recanted her story.
"I was angry, and I felt it out," the quote quotes Munro-Leighton as saying, adding that she did not admit having Kavanaugh.
So far, Munro-Leighton's location was not independent and could not immediately be found.
Grassley is asking the FBI to investigate the woman for obstruction and making false statements.
