WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chair calls for criminal investigation into woman allegedly writing an anonymous letter alleging sexual misconduct on the part of the current Judge of the Court Supreme, Brett Kavanaugh, but has retracted and acknowledged that she did not know him.
Senator Chuck Grassley told the Department of Justice that Judy Munro-Leighton contacted her committee in October and stated that she had written the letter, which had been signed during Kavanaugh's confirmation process. Iowa Republican said that, following questions from the committee, she had never met Kavanaugh and had not written the letter.
Kavanaugh denied all the allegations against him.
President Donald Trump seized the matter at a rally in Montana on Saturday, calling it a "shame".
Last month, Grassley also called for the opening of a criminal investigation into another Kavanaugh accuser, Julie Swetnick, and her lawyer, Michael Avenatti.
