An Italian restaurant is the last building to be flooded last week with a video showing a wave breaking through glass windows and in the building.

It occurred on October 29 in Bagni Maddalena during heavy rain and strong winds in the coastal town of Arenzano in Italy.

The video shows several workers cleaning the company's floors before a wave gets lost and goes to the building.

Workers rush to the windows and doors and prepare themselves to prevent water from entering without much success. The water begins to break the doors and even drives some employees further into the restaurant, one of them even jumping on the bar.

Most of them got up after the wave, but there were a few injuries. The happy owner, Giovonna Damonte, was hospitalized with broken glass lacerations.

"We were drying the water near the windows, it was like a little wave, then in a second, we realized that a tsunami [sic] was coming, "said Damonte Storyful.

This is one of the many storms that devastated the country, killing at least 17 people and devastating vast areas of forest, according to the Italian Civil Protection Agency.

Regions ranging from Sicily to the south-west to the northern regions of Trentino and Veneto – around Venice – have been affected.

Coldiretti, the association of Italian agricultural companies, said in a statement that the recovery would not be easy.

"We will need at least a century to return to normalcy," the statement said.

People wanting to make their way through the squares and alleys of Venice have not been able to do so, as they have been submerged by the biggest floods the city has seen in a decade. The walkways designed to allow people to navigate the city even had to be demolished because the water was very high.

CNN reports that a project, known as the Moses Project, has been going on for years to protect Venice from severe floods, but that it's not over yet. A spokesperson for the Civil Protection Agency told CNN that the project could have mitigated the impact of salt water on some of Venice's historic sites.

According to estimates, the cost of damage in the northern region of Veneto would be more than one billion euros (1.49 million Canadian dollars).
