A truck struck 31 cars and killed at least 15 people after the driver's loss of control on Saturday night near a highway toll booth in northwestern China, the Chinese authorities said.

More than 40 other people were injured in the Lanzhou City accident.

The local police, in a statement released on Sunday, blamed the truck driver for losing control of his vehicle after continuously braking on a long descent to the toll gates.

The driver, who had never used this highway before, panicked and did not move away from the traffic when his brake broke, authorities said.

In another road accident, northwestern China police announced that a bus in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, had lost control of its vehicle on Saturday afternoon, making twice at least two dead. Five other people were injured.

Police arrested the bus driver and investigated the case.

In an off-road accident, central China authorities announced that a thermal insulation equipment manufacturing plant had exploded on Saturday morning in Lankao County, Henan Province, due to Propane leak. Eight people were killed and one injured, the authorities said.

The accidents follow a tragic bus accident in southwestern China on October 28, which killed 15 people.

Chinese authorities said the bus had plunged from a bridge into Chongqing City and had landed in the Yangtze River in waters over 70 meters deep.

The video of an onboard camera shows a woman attacking the driver after missing a stop, which makes him lose control of the vehicle.
